Exploring the Graph

Local and global views

The graph has two modes. Both are useful — the question is what you are trying to understand.

Local view

Centers on one note and shows its immediate neighbourhood — the notes and concepts directly connected to it. Use this when you are deep in a specific topic and want to see what surrounds it.

Example: Open a note on “decision fatigue” and switch to local view — you see everything that connects to that idea in your graph.

Global view

Shows your entire graph at once. Useful for noticing patterns: which domains are dense, which notes are isolated, where connections cross unexpected boundaries.

Example: Step back to the full graph after a productive week — you can see how your new notes have changed the shape of your knowledge.

Using filters

A large graph can feel overwhelming. Filters let you reduce what you see to only what's relevant for your current question.

By note type

Show only permanent notes to see your consolidated thinking, or only ephemeral notes to find what hasn't been processed yet.

By relation type

Show only "tension" edges to see where your ideas conflict, or only "source" edges to trace evidence chains.

By space

Limit the graph to one context — your work notes, your research, your personal reading — without losing the cross-space connections if you need them.

Reading clusters

When a group of notes appears tightly connected in the global view, that cluster signals a domain of dense thinking — a subject you have developed significantly. Clusters are not manually created: they emerge from how you write and connect.

A cluster with thin connections to the rest of the graph can mean two things: either this is a genuinely separate territory, or you have been gathering in one area without connecting it to the rest of your thinking. Both are worth noticing.

Isolated notes are worth attention too. A note with no connections is either genuinely standalone — or it is waiting to be connected to something that already exists in your graph.
